In my eyes and in the world of Meesha, Elephant Bars main purpose is to
serve me my Santa Barbra Burger. Everything on the menu may as well be
non existent because I basically have tunnel vision when it comes to the
menu and what I order. I always order the burger. For the first time
today, I decided to step outside my comfort zone at the E-bar and get
some tri-tip and shrimp dish, can't even remember the name because I
basically ordered it on a whim, while fighting the urge to order my
Santa Barbra burger (which they have a picture of in the menu, which
makes it that much harder to avoid). Well, what a grotesque meal that
shrimp/tri tip was. :( I knew I should have ordered my burger, I could
have easily made this dish with Uncle Ben's minute rice and some frozen
shrimp/tri-tip. Totally not a memorable experience or one that would
satisfy my taste buds to the core. I will definitely *singing to the
tune of TLC's chasing waterfalls*: "stick with the santa barbra
buuuurggggerrrr I'mmm useddd to, I knowww thatttt I gotta have it my way
orrrr nothing at allll, cause this dish was reeealllyyy baaaad". hahaha
Anyway,
I
love sitting outside on the patio, it's really nice and clean and kinda
tropical (well as tropical as you can get in rundown fremont). Will
come again, but not for anything else on the menu except the burger.

The wife and I wanted a nice dinner out, and were looking
for something other than our known Indian and Chinese food haunts. We
consulted Yelp and found The Vine. When we arrived, we oohed and aaahed
over the quaint little place (emphasis on little--there is not much seating
inside), until the hostess informed us that they were booked for the evening.
We turned to leave, but she mentioned that there was patio seating in
back--if we weren't too cold. Apparently their heat lamps weren't working.
It was a nice night, so we agreed to sit outside. It was several
minutes until our supposed server acknowledged us at our table, and then
several more minutes, and a server change until we were asked for our order.
We weren't given a drink list when we sat down, so we actually ordered
our drinks after we ordered apps and dinner, once the server realized the
mistake.
They have a pretty good selection--I ordered a "cougar juice" wine flight, which was supposed to come with a Chard, Pinot Grigio, and Pinot Noir, as a mixed flight. wife had a cocktail. When I was served my flight (our servers switched back in the interim), I was brought three white wines. Wife, budding wine connoisseur, questioned our server as to which was the Noir, because he thought they were all red. The server looked a bit baffled, and pointed to the left-most glass. "Really?", wife and I both asked, skeptical, so the server went away to consult the hostess, who informed him that the he had just poured the Grigio of the same brand of wine instead of the Noir. It turned out to be A-OK though, because he brought us the Noir, in addition to the Grigio he had poured. Yay for free wine.
Our food came shortly after--I had the cheese plate as an app, which I highly recommend. I should mention now that almost everything they use is local. So, this cheese was from Cowgirl Cremery, and delicious. Wife had the sweet potato tots, which he also claimed to be a roaring success. For our main courses, I got the salmon, scallop and muscle sauté and wife got the fried red snapper. I enjoyed my plate very much. There was plenty of seafood, the noodles were a nice texture and the tomato cream sauce was tangy and hot (temperature, not spicy). Wife wasn't so lucky--the red snapper is essentially their fish and chips. It came in a basket on top of fries--fast food stlye-ish. He said the fish was good, but there were a ton of bones in his pieces, which made it a bit hard for him to enjoy.
We rounded out the evening with a carrot cake cupcake, which was pretty solid, and the richest, creamiest, and thickest chocolate mousse that I have ever had. It was almost like someone melted chocolate baking cubes in a coffee mug and then stuck it in the fridge for a bit. I enjoyed probably the first 5 bites or so--but it was so rich and thick that I couldn't even finish it. I'd have preferred it a bit lighter, but for those who dig chocolate (like, a lot), would probably love it.
The Vine has GREAT potential to be an amazing little spot with great food and amazing atmosphere. It's just not quite there yet with the food or service. Wife and I agreed that we look forward to going again six months from now to see how they're doing!

Los Cabos

Fremont, CA 94538

Got there for the daily special : 4 mini taco's for $4.00
But wait, there's more : And they up the ante on Monday's and Wednesday's: when you get the four taco's, you get a free fountain soda.
A filling meal for not a lot of cash; Thanks Los Cabos !!!!
My meat choice was carnitas and pollo; both were tasty and not greasy.
You get a free basket of store bought corn chips; hey, they are free and the salsa bar kicks butt.
Customer service: friendly.
Parking: front row parking can be iffy, you may need to park in the adjacent parking lot and walk an extra 25 yards.
No home made corn tortilla's.
The regular dinner plates are pricey; at $8.80 to $13.50.
Customer service: very good and friendly.
Quick service: in 5 to 10 minutes you have your food; you can tell the food is well put together, not slopped together.

La Casita, Congratulations, you get my first 4.5. Your deliciously crispy and perfectly fried chips crunch, and then melt, in my mouth. Your salsa is fresh and has just the right amount of spice without making me want to rip my tongue out. Again, nicely done.
As a customer, you definitely have to be careful what you order here, as it can swiftly and completely change your opinion of this restaurant. First things first -- this is a rule that I adhere to, and have adhered to, since my initial experience dining here:
Do not order off the a la carte menu. Just don't do it, okay?
Meals I strongly advocate ordering:
*Seafood Enchiladas
*Seafood Soup
*Okay, really anything off the seafood menu, except the surf and turf
*Fajitas
*Gibo Special
I am probably an anomaly in that I don't really enjoy Mexican rice / beans, so because I rarely to never eat them, and wouldn't like them even if I did, I can't remark on their pro's or con's. My boyfriend, however, gives the rice two thumbs up. The beans are just "meh"
The meals are a bit on the pricier side for Mexican food ($10-$20), so be prepared for that. Also, it gets LOUD and BUSY here on weekend nights -- and naturally, service slows down because of it. So if you're coming with a hot date, maybe you should play it safe and bring him/her on a weeknite instead. Not a romantic atmosphere, but a great place to bring the kids. They can run around like wild banshees, and no one will even blink an eye.

I used to stop by here a lot while I was at Ohlone, and I was always disappointed that they closed so early ): I always had late tutoring sessions, so this was always my favorite dinner-type meal place.
I always got the turkey and swiss. Sooooooo good! -drool- When I had extra money, I'd add a cup of the pesto pasta salad! Mmm yum yum!
The sandwiches ALWAYS fill me up. They put a ton of those sprouts in your sandwich (I'm not sure why) and they don't really taste like anything, but they could be healthy... I dunno.
Unfortunately, I won't be going to Ohlone anymore. But, I still have 4 more stamps to get before I can get my free sandwich.. Hmm...
The older woman that works here is always so nice. She actually talks and smiles and stuff. Very heartwarming (:
It's about $9 for a sandwich, but its worth it. Get the pesto pasta salad and some Honest Tea!

We've been meaning to try dinner at Los Cabos for a long time, but have
been thwarted in the past by their relatively early closing time (8:30
pm). We did have breakfast here once, but it was so long ago that I
only have a vaguely positive recollection of it. It's a casual dinning
experience -- you order at the register, take a number, and your meal is
brought to you.
Anyway, I ordered the tacos plate (I chose steak and pork, respectively, with a mild green chile sauce), which came with rice and refried beans. Everything was very good. The meat was tasty and lean, and beans were about the best I've ever had. They could have gone a bit lighter on the minced raw onions that came with the tacos, but it was easy to scrape some off. They were out of Sol beer, so I settled for Modelo instead (It was just OK). My girlfriend had the shrimp enchiladas with fried eggs on top, and rice and beans on the side, which were also very good.
Chips come complementary with the meal, and there's a salsa bar where you can pick from at least 7 or 8 varieties. Beware though -- several of them are pretty hot.
It took a little longer than expected to get our orders, but I'll take quality over speed any time. And the owner was quite friendly, stopping by our table to see how our meal was. A very enjoyable dinner. I'm sure we'll be back.
