The Ultimate Deli
39706 Cedar Blvd
(at Mowry School Rd)
Newark, CA 94560
(510) 252-1649
The owner of the deli recently reached out to me on here due to my previous review. He had offered me a free meal and I decided to take him up on it so I went in to see about said meal.
All I can say is: Wow.
Customer service was -amazing-. The owner was up front taking orders and running the register and personally took my order, used my name, and treated me wonderfully. Everyone else in line was also treated very well and with a very friendly manner which was great to see.
The interior has changed a bit from the last time I went in. When I last went in the place was still in it's transitional phase so it was a bit of hodge podge. Now it has a nice, big, clear menu board that is all about Ultimate Deli and not the previous deli. The meat case is still there and stocked full and the chip selection, my gripe in my previous review, has in fact been updated! I also received a message about this a while back but hadn't been able to drop by until now to confirm it. Gone are the stock, Subway-style chips and in are fun, interesting flavors- I got the rosemary & olive oil which is quite tasty. They've even added candy the rack!
The sandwich I had was great. Flavorful turkey in thick enough cuts, lots of veggies, and- Dutch Crunch Bread!! I love that stuff and am so happy they still have it. Nowhere else but the now defunct sandwich place at SF State seems to have this bread and I'm so happy Ultimate Deli has it.
Prices are also very good. The specialty sandwiches are 6 bucks and up, but you can make your own starting at 4 bucks. 4 bucks! Cheaper than Subway and way better tasting. They even have salads that I heard the owner say were pretty big. I'm a sucker for a big salad so next time I go I may get a salad.
I'm totally bringing my friends here more often. Even if I'm the only one eating, I'm coming back. The service is great, the sandwiches are big and tasty, and overall they really seem to like making people happy. Keep up the good work guys!
